Appointment of Dr. Hossein Ghazavi as the President of the ECO Trade and Development Bank

Dr. Hossein Ghazavi has been appointed as the “President” of the ECO Bank by the Governors of the three founding countries which are the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Turkey. Following the appointment to his new position, Dr. Ghazavi took office at the Headquarter of the Bank in İstanbul, as of November 1st, 2011.
 
Dr. Hossein Ghazavi was the Vice Governor of Economic Affairs at the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and also was lecturing courses on ‘Money and Banking’, ‘Macroeconomics’, ‘Microeconomics’, ‘Comparative Banking’, ‘Islamic Banking’ and “International Banking” in various universities of Tehran, before the appointment as the President of the ECO Bank. Previously, he had served as the First Vice-Governor of the Central Bank.
 
Prior to his post at the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Ghazavi had served as a Board Member of Export Development Bank (2006-2007). He had been the Director General of the Office of Loans, International Organizations (2005-2006) at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance. Between years of 2003-2005, Dr. Ghazavi was holding both positions as an Advisor to the Minister and the Director General of the Office for Performance Evaluation at the Ministry.
 
Dr. Ghazavi had been a member of International Ad Hoc Committee for Draft Convention against Corruption held in Vienna (2001-2003). For several years, he served as Director General of the Office for Monetary and Commercial Policies at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance of the Islamic Republic of Iran (2001-1996).
 
Dr. Hossein Ghazavi received his post graduate degree in Economics. The topic of his thesis was ‘European Economic Unity, Assessment of Its Effects on Iran Trade Models’. He presented his doctorate dissertation on ‘An Assessment of Effects of Monetary Policy on Business Cycles in Line with Strengthening the National Security’.
 
Dr. Ghazavi has various researches and authored a 2 volume book on ‘Money, Banking and Financial Markets’, ‘Inflationary Tax of Dollar’ and ‘Open Market Operations within Islamic Framework’.
 
He was awarded by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran with a Plaque of Appreciation for a Paper on Economic Implications of Money Laundering (2004) and with a Multiple Plaques of Appreciation by Ministers (2002-2006).
 
Dr. Ghazavi has command over English, Arabic and French languages.
