The Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Trade and Development Bank signed loan agreements with the United Bank Ltd. and Habib bank Ltd. on December 4, 2008, respectively for an amount of US $ 15 million each, for the purpose of providing financing to Small and Medium Sized Companies (SMEs) based in Pakistan. SME Development Loan with a maturity period of up to 4 years with one year grace has been structured to provide necessary support to the SME sector, which are playing a major role towards economic growth by creating employment opportunities, alleviation of poverty and development of trade in the region.
In addition to the SME Loan Agreement, Short Term Trade Financing Agreement was also signed between Habib Bank Limited and the ECO Trade and Development Bank, for supporting export and import transactions amongst the member countries in the ECO region.
